JEAN MICHEL COUSTEAU RESORT
Anyone thinking about traveling to the Jean Michel Cousteau Resort will have an idea of what to expect just by looking at the name. Jean Michel is the son of famous underwater pioneer Jacques Cousteau. Lending his name to the resort shows how this award-winning resort reflects a passion for the environment and the indigenous people of Fiji.
In the Pacific Islands where the waters are deep, deep purple, Fiji is one of the most romantic destinations and the resort regularly receives awards for the standard of its service and is recognized as the best in Fiji.
JEAN MICHEL COUSTEAU RESORT MAIN ATTRACTIONS
The World’s Top Eco friendly Resort
Running a holiday resort is extremely eco-unfriendly, but it has become a mission for the Jean Michel Cousteau Resort to focus endlessly on delivering fantastic service with minimal impact on the environment. In 2007 that effort was recognised when Condร Nast awarded the resort top position in its Green List. Pioneering technologies are used to manage waste and include a new waste water management system that cleans and purifies water from the resort with local coconut husks before returning it to the lagoon. Organic gardening and the growing of edible landscaping give rise to a greener, more carbon friendly program as less food needs to be shipped into the resort. The impact on the local environment is minimized, as fishing for the restaurant takes place off the reef, in deeper water where the fish are more plentiful.
Scuba Diving in Paradise
Scuba diving at the resort really does have a five-star quality. The Cousteau name is synonymous with underwater exploration and discovery. All of the excitement of scuba diving is encompassed in an unsurpassed dive experience. The resort was named by Harpers Abroad as the “Best Resort Hotel for Diving” because the variety of marine life, the number of soft coral and the sheer volume of reef activity make the diving some of the best in the world. The dive school, owned by Jean-Michel Cousteau, son of the famous Frenchman, benefits from outstanding dive sites where the Koro Sean and Savsuna bay meet and the marine life is prodigious. With a pedigree such as this, and a location to match, the P.A.D.I. diving school offers a training experience that is hard to beat.
Become Immersed in Fijian Culture
The Jean Michel Cousteau Resort provides a perfect environment to absorb the benefits of the idyllic paradise life found in these islands. Crystal clear waters, powdery white sand, aquamarine lagoons and deep purple outer reef water all make a natural feast for the senses and when combined with the beauty of the surroundings, the cuisine quality, and the standards of service the experience becomes unforgettable. Jean Michel Cousteau has a passionate interest in maintaining the culture of Fiji and the hotel provides a daily program of varied activities designed to allow visitors to experience elements of that culture first-hand. Exploring the mangroves with the resort’s own marine biologist, exploring the local market in preparation for a Fijian feast, and learning to work with the coconut as the locals do are all ways of being immersed in the Fijian culture to give a holiday experience with added depth.
